Mathematics of Injustice.

Arundhati Roy is firm on her decision to not accept Sahitya Academy award. As much as I respect her for her literary achievements and her work as Human rights activist, this albeit is tad too unjust on her to the Indian premier literary body. The way she portrays democratic government in India is like its some military regime in Myanmar and she is like the only messiah for democracy and cause of Human right remaining in the subcontinent.

As much as I personally don’t agree with many of the decision by the present and previous establishments ruling from Delhi, one thing I can surely vouch for is at all point of time both Vajpayee and Current regime has not fallen prey to umpteen promises shown by Bush Regime and stayed firm on not providing any military assistance to the USA in Iraq.

This itself is enough to counter claims of Ms Roy that she has raised in her letter to the Academy.

As much as it is true that in true democracy the fourth estate , the writers, playwrights ,movie makers have important role in acting as checks and controls for health of democracy and they have an important role in educating the masses, by providing the food for mind. But having jaundiced vision and opposing anything and everything for sake of opposing loses the whole purpose. The danger in latter is like in the story where boy who cried wolf ,people got so much used to his false cries that they neglected him in the hour when he needed real help
